Interactive Map of Farm Land in the United States
I have always wondered how much of the US is considered farm land. According to this study, there are over 895M acres of farm land across the United States. Which equates to 40% of the land in the country. With over 2 Million farm operations across all 50 states, this industry generates over $389 Billion in farm production. That is a lot of farming!
Having a small farm in Montana, we appreciate just how much work our farmers in the US put in. Our property is roughly 300 acres and it takes everyone in the family to work through hay season to ensure we get a quality product for our horses and cattle. I can’t imagine having a larger operation and doing thousands of acres. I really admire our farmers and what they do to feed us and our livestock.
In this study, Iowa is the largest farm state with over 85% of it’s land dedicated to farming. Montana made the top 10, with over 65% of it’s land dedicated to farming. Considering Montana is a much larger state to Iowa, I am curious if they make up a large portion of production than some of the smaller states with larger percentages.
Stay tuned for further studies like this and I hope you find this information helpful!
